Sam Phillips
Staff Instructor
Fourteen years ago, Sam was called into the elementary school principal's office because his teacher was finding sketches and diagrams of guns on his homework assignments. He was asked if everything was okay at home. Everything was indeed okay. Sam now makes diagrams, CAD models, and prototypes of guns professionally, and has a passion for introducing others to the world of firearms. He loves spending evenings and weekends meeting students to introduce the tools and techniques that allow protectors to excel: prioritizing safety, making the complex simple, and getting students competent quickly through repetitive, realistic practice. Get ready to repeat your pistol draw from the holster until you can do it in less than a second, while driving a car, riding a bike, or kick-flipping a skateboard. Maybe that's a slight exaggeration.
Sam knows that owning the tools to protect ourselves and loved ones is simply not enough. Those tools need to be within reach, and their owner must have the skills to use them instinctively when it matters most.
That takes solid fundamentals, practice in many different scenarios, and - good news; happens to be a lot of fun. Sam is a licensed EMT, NRA Certified firearms instructor, Stop the Bleed Instructor, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care certified, CPR/BLS certified, and is a certifiable gun nerd. In addition to gun-focused courses, he teaches NTAC's medical classes with Iron Rescue and organizes range day events for Gunmen USA.
When he is not at the range or working as a firearms and accessories engineer, Sam spends time fly fishing, riding motorcycles, hunting, rock climbing and camping. He enjoys prepping and audiobooks about the end of the world, and does not enjoy swiping on dating apps - but finds it to be a necessary evil. Sam can be found on weekends walking between shooting range bays trying to convince random people to shoot an AK, Binary AR, FRT, or suppressed .22 handgun for the first time.
He is thrilled to be a part of your progression towards becoming a more capable protector.
